The new Lexus RC Coupe (pictured) debuts at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show
It was back in July that the new Lexus RC Coupe was confirmed for a debut at this year’s Tokyo Motor show and now, with Tokyo just a few weeks away, Lexus has revealed the RC Coupe. The RC Coupe gets an evolution of the Lexus design language – more akin to its recent concept models than production cars – with a heavily contoured shape and the big Lexus spindle grill and lights that look like they’ve taken their inspiration from the LF-LC Concept. There’s also a choice of 18″ and optional 19″ alloys, with the 18″ looking butch and the 19″ elegant.
Not to be outdone by BMW’s joint venture with the SGL Group to manufacturer commercially viable carbonfibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) for the electric Megacity Vehicle, Mercedes has announced a joint venture with Japanese company Toray Industries to manufacturer and market its on CFRP automotive parts. The deal was signed in Germany today, with Toray taking a 50.1% stake, Daimler holding 44.9% and the remaining 5% being taken by other shareholders. The two companies started working together in March 2010, and while Toray has been working on the materials and moulding processes, Merc has designed the automotive parts and the technologies to join the parts together.
Audi TT RS Plus costs from £49k
With the Audi TT RS Plus order book about to open in the UK, Audi reveals it will costs from £48,945 for the manual coupe. Audi revealed the TT RS Plus back in February – ahead of a debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March – as a new range-topping model to sit above the existing TT RS. The TT RS Plus gets pretty much the same performance and power levels as the US version of the TT RS, but Audi has positioned the RS Plus at the top of the range in the UK and Europe as a more hard-core version of the regular RS.
